Pastor Jim Bzdafka & Jenny Bzdafka
Raised a thoughtful Roman Catholic, Jim Bzdafka committed his life to Christ while a freshman at North Carolina State University through the ministry of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He grew in his devotion to and faith in Jesus through involvement in various ministries while in college and as a young adult. He earned a BA in Journalism and MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College. While employed by AT&T, Jim was active in Parkside Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, teaching small groups, adult Bible classes, and training small group leaders.
At age thirty he sensed a call to devote the best hours of his days to Christian service, which was affirmed by the leaders at Parkside Church. He went on the church’s staff and subsequently enrolled in Columbia Biblical Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 1990, was ordained to the Gospel ministry at Parkside Church, and then served on the pastoral staff of Cuyahoga Valley Church in Broadview Heights, Ohio. In 1992 he was called to be the church planting and senior pastor of Providence Church in Avon, Ohio, where he served in that role for nearly 26 years. In early 2019 Jim was called to begin and serve as the pastor of River Christian Fellowship. He and his wife Jenny have three adult children and with one grandson and two granddaughters.
Jenny Bzdafka was raised an active Presbyterian and asked Christ into her life as a thirteen-year-old at a Tom Skinner Crusade in Canton, Ohio. She was active in the ministry of Young Life in high school. At Kent State University she played on the women’s tennis team and graduated with a BA in Home Economics. She and Jim met at a Bible Study, served in ministries together, and were married in 1981. Jenny went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and has taught at two Christian schools, including fifteen years at Westside Christian Academy in Westlake, Ohio.
Jenny has been involved in teaching and leading children’s ministries at the churches she and Jim have been involved with. In addition, she has survived both ovarian and pancreatic cancers and has been used by God to minister His love and truth to innumerable people with cancer. She complements Jim’s ministry through her great kindness, love for people, and ministry to women and children.
