We rarely ever think about the fact that we are “citizens” of our country, more specifically “natural born citizens”. Because of that we often take for granted the rights and privileges we have as “citizens”. Others who immigrate to the United States and earn their “citizenship” are far more aware and appreciative of their legal status than most Americans are. They know that a person’s legal standing is immeasurably important.
That is true regarding our spiritual legal status. None of us were “naturally born” into God’s Kingdom. We were strangers, foreigners, and under the wrath of God before we trusted in Jesus. His love and work for us earned our heavenly citizenship so that we have a new legal/spiritual standing with God. God does more than declare us to be righteous in His sight, He grants us heavenly citizenship with all the rights and privileges thereof!
