The letter James wrote to Jesus’ followers in the mid-40’s AD is not dissimilar to the Boy Scouts’ Fieldbook. It does contain the experience accumulated by those who have gone before and had known Jesus personally and best, but it declares much more than that. It also contains God’s will and wisdom for those who have pledged their faith and allegiance to Him in their pursuit of the Christian life. Good leaders tell their followers not only what they should do, but also what they should not do. The Apostle James is not delinquent in that regard. The end of James’ letter focuses upon six common problems or behaviors that can harm any of us spiritually.
