When Jesus’ followers in the city of Antioch began to send out missionaries in 46 A.D., they went to and focused their efforts in urban areas. As D.L. Moody declared eighteen centuries later, “The greatest and deepest reservoirs of our nation are the cities, and water runs downhill. If we can reach the cities with the Gospel then it will trickle down to every town and village in our country.” Thus far in the Book of Acts, we’ve seen God’s missionaries go to urban areas with the message of Jesus. The Apostle Paul continues to invest his evangelistic and disciple-making efforts in one of the largest and most significant cities in the Roman Empire. He sought to renew all urban people by having them trust in Jesus the Messiah as their Savior and Lord.
